Toxic stench -- this product should not be on the market

by Paul Clifford 2009-11-23, 20 people found this review helpful
I received this camera case a week ago, and I've never regretted a purchase more. The case STINKS. I left it outside for a week, and though the smell has decreased, from causing me to retch to merely making me nauseous, it still stinks. It off-gasses a smell a bit like diesel fuel, but much stronger. As a chemist I have had the opportunity to smell a wide variety of hydrocarbons, and this case smells like a mixture of various aliphatic an aromatic species, likely containing a number of PNAs (polynuclear aromatics), which are likely quite toxic. The smell raises the hair on the back of my neck, and scares the hell out of me. My chemical intuition says, "Danger -- Toxic!". I can't believe anyone would sell a product like this, and I pity the poor workers who were exposed to the fumes during its manufacture. Is it made from recycled industrial waste? When reviewers here say it smells, beware, it really SMELLS! Do not allow it into your home!

Stinks, literally

Nice case, price was right, shipping was fast...but the case literally STINKS! It had an awful, chemical smell that would not quit. I contacted the company, and they verified that they found the smell on other units too...but would NOT send me a replacement unless I returned the obviously unsellable case. Too cheap to bother returning, and the company wasn't kind enough (even after acknowledging the problem) to send a replacement anyway. Oh well. Now, there's no wonder why it was so cheap. Junk merchandise. Be forewarned.

Great case!

Great little camera case. I'm always wary of cases like this that claim they fit 20+ cameras, but it really fits my Canon Powershot A410 PERFECT. Seems well made and durable. Great Price. Thanks guys...

SMELLY!!

by D. Martinez 2009-11-11, 4 people found this review helpful
The case is nice and small, but it smells REALLY bad like chemicals. When I first received it, I had to hang it on the back door to air out over the weekend... that didn't really help much. I'm not able to use it because it gives me a headache just being near it...

Great, but stinky

by E. Stryker 2009-11-01, 4 people found this review helpful
This seems like a great little case. My Cybershot fits perfectly. My only complaint is that the external plastic smells bad (the inside is a fabric). The only way to describe the smell would be similar to if someone had dipped it in gas. I suppose the smell will fade in time, but currently I smell it quite a bit when I have the case a few feet away from me, and this smell got 'stuck' onto another item I love very much because they came into contact with one another for a while. It's been about a week and the smell hasn't gone away, and the item that picked up the smell still smells of it faintly from that first contact.

Still stink after three washes ...

by Ty N. 2009-11-25, 3 people found this review helpful
The case still stinks (gasoline-liked smell) after three long washes. After that, I tried to spray car-scent on it; it still stinks. The smell gave me a mild headache. I wish I would have taken the other reviews more seriously.

Nice Case

I really like this Canon camera case. It's perfect in size and appearance. It has a nice pocket for an extra chip. I love the belt holder.

OMG

by P. Earl 2009-12-01, 2 people found this review helpful
Wish I had read the reviews prior to making this purchase but I would like to echo previous comments - what an AWFUL smell. Soaking in soap water, vinegar - nothing seems to remove the awful smell. While made well they are totally unusable.

Very Good Buy

Very nice for the price. Padded, belt loop, shoulder stap, meshed pocket for extras and velcro secure.

Cheap, Smelly & Useless

by T. DeGroot 2010-04-21, 0 people found this review helpful
Sure wish I had read the reviews prior to buying two of these cases. Yes, it has a bad smell, and no it does not securely hold a camera. In addition, the materials are significantly cheaper than any camera case I have ever owned....I will never find out how long the materials will hold up, because I wouldn't dream of putting my camera in it. There is no zip pocket and the Velcro closure is totally inadequate. The slightest contact is likely to open it and let the camera fall out. Cheap, smelly and useless.
